ACME SIREN WHISTLE

The Acme Siren Whistle  iHorn is made from an Acme Siren Whistle.   The Acme Siren Whistle was a musical instrument which was originally created in 1895.  It produced a stylized sound of a police siren, often used for comic effects.  J Hudson & Co was founded in the 1870s in Birmingham, England.  It was a family run business which remained in the family for 100 years, and became the largest manufacturer of whistles in the world.  On October 26, 1940, their factory suffered a direct hit during a German air raid, killing no one but destroying the factory.  Undaunted, they rebuilt with a spirit which could not be overcome.  No longer in the family but still making whistles, since the inception of the company they have manufactured over one billion whistles.  Presumably, their company song was “Whistle While You Work!”  The Acme Siren Whistle iHorn is a simple yet effective tool, its patina and functionality work as well today as when it was first made – it is remarkable in simplicity and grace.
