The Firestone Air Chief iHORN is made from a Firestone Air Chief radio made in 1946.  The horn is a Navy signal horn from the World War II era.  The company sponsored "The Voice of Firestone" on the radio beginning on December 1928. The program was transferred to television as an NBC simulcast on 5th September 1949. The last broadcast was in 1963.  The name Firestone Air Chief was trademarked in 1940.  The AIR CHIEF brand was initially used for air conditioning units, but also for a Firestone record label "PHILHARMONIC Air Chief", and radio models.  In late 1979, Firestone was in substantial debt, losing 250 million dollars a year.  They closed 9 of the 17 manufacturing plants and moved back to Akron, Ohio.  The Firestone Air Chief is enduring and reminds each of us where the rubber meets the road.
