The Mobil Oil Artic Topper iHorn is made from a cone gas oil bottle top dispenser made by the Vacuum Oil Company, which became an independent company when the U.S. Supreme Court in 1911 found that Standard Oil was a monopoly and broke it up into 34 unrelated companies. Vacuum marketed its products under the name MobilOil. In 1931, the government gave up its efforts to prevent a remerger of Standard Oil and Vacumm, once again creating a giant in the oil business. The oil topper was patented in 1926 as a “liquid dispensing device.” Enter Master Manufacturing & Equipment Co., who either purchased the patent rights or negotiated a license, starting to make the product in 1926. Their slogan was “Serve your oil in glass!” The liquid dispensing device allowed you to service a vehicle’s oil needs without spilling it all over the place and making a mess. Companies like Vacuum purchased licenses and used the liquid dispensing device on their own oil bottles, rebranding to their specifications. By the late 1930’s, canned oil became more popular and serving oil in glass became faded into the silica. So whatever your run, enjoy your day in the limelight, but realize that nothing lasts forever. Thus, life is better when we appreciate and enjoy the small moments.
