Strad-O-Vox

The Strad-O-Vox is a first of its kind small cabinet radio horn.  It was made in 1925.  Sterling Cabinet Works wa chartered in Queens, New York in October of 1924.  It was capitalized with $10,000.00.  The initial charter members were F. Billman, E.S. Kollmyer and M. Rosenthal.  Riding the boom in early 1920’s radios, many small woodworking and cabinet companies transitioned into producing specialized radio cabinets, of which The Stradovox was one.  The Strad-O-Vox weighed 9 lbs and initially sold for $26.00.  If we adjust the same for inflation, today without factoring in rarity or antiquity, The Strad-O-Vox would have sold for $496.11 with a cumulative inflation rate of 1808.1%!  However, rarity is the name of the game because the Sterling Cabinet Works company did not find success, and it was dissolved in January, 1926, lasting only fifteen (15) months.  The Strad-O-Vox is a one of a kind iHorn simply because of lack of commercial success when initially made.  It represents not only dashed hopes and dreams, but the optimism that reward involves risk, and with nothing ventured, nothing is ever gained.
