The Monarch Junior iHorn is made from a 1921 Monarch Company of Dayton, Ohio price marking machine. It is in wonderful condition and is a one of a kind iHorn. Frederick Kohnle had an interest in doing things better and more efficiently. As a clerk in a St. Louis department store, he price marked merchandise by marking with a pen or pencil. On August 6th, 1890, he applied for a patent on a strip ticket that was 3" long and 3/4" wide. Kohnle founded the Climax Tag Company in 1891 and contracted with a company in Toledo Ohio to build the first marking machine. Finally, in 1901, the first machine was produced and the company became Monarch. In 1921, sales totaled $350,000. In 1968, Monarch was purchased by Pitney Bowes Inc . Today, a version of the company remains in business as a subsidiary of Avery Dennison. The Monarch Junior represents ingenuity and the long standing reality that there is a better mousetrap. So go build it!
