The Referree

The Referee iHorn is made from an antique referee's horn, made in the 1920's.  It came from Spain.  In the early games of soccer, disputes were settled by the two captains.  By 1872, each team appointed an umpire.  They had no right to interfere with the game in progress but could be "appealed to" by the players. It is recorded William Atack, a referee from New Zealand, was reportedly the first referee to employ a whistle to stop a rugby game in 1884.  These early “whistles” were in fact reed based horns, not the pea style snail whistles we think of today.  So sit back, watch the game unfold, and when appropriate, call foul.
