The Safeguard

The Safe Guard  iHorn is made from a Safe Guard Check Writer Instrument Company check protection machine made in 1917 or 1918.  It originally sold for $90.00.  This device punches, or embosses, the amount on the check thereby protecting it from the amount being altered (for fraudulent purposes). 

Safeguard Scientifics, Inc., is one of the few publicly traded venture capital firms in the United States. It was founded in 1953.  Its second investment was a company called Safeguard Industries, which began as a printing operation founded in 1900, Safeguard attracted the attention of Lancaster through its invention of a highly successful check-writing machine that imprinted checks with the dollar amount by perforating the paper. Safeguard also successfully marketed an accompanying bookkeeping system that automatically recorded the dollar amount each time a check was printed.
