The Standard

The Standard iHORN is made from a brass Standard Metal Manufacturing Radio Horn made in Newark, New Jersey.  It was made in 1922.  The attached advertisement shows that depending on the height of the original model it sold for either $5.00 or $7.50.  The instant model sold for $7.50.  New Jersey has a very long history with manufacturing that stretches far back into colonial times and was considered one of the main manufacturing centers in the United States for decades.  This horn is but one example of the then prowess of Americans to make products in America.  While little is known of the Standard Metal Manufacturing Company today, this horn was obviously a utilitarian horn designed to work with any radio receiver.  It is a rare horn which the advertisting got right – “We figure on Special Horns for Manufacturers.”  The Standard is indeed a special horn.
