The Trombone iHorn is made from a vintage trombone of unknown make or age. The trombone is a musical instrument in the brass family. Nearly all trombones have a telescoping slide mechanism that varies the length of the instrument to change the pitch. The word trombone derives from Italian tromba (trumpet) and -one (a suffix meaning "large"), so the name means "large trumpet". During the Renaissance, the equivalent English term was "sackbut". The word first appears in court records in 1495 at about the time King Henry VII married a Portuguese princess who brought some musicians with her. The sackbut was used extensively across Europe from its appearance in the 15th century to a decline in most places by the mid-late 17th century. Because of the influence of Italian music in the 18th century, the term sackbut was dropped and the instrument became forever known as the trombone. By the 1840’s because of the use of the instrument by Bach, Handel and Beethoven, the trombone became a standard part of all orchestras. The introduction of the trombones into the orchestra, however, allied them more closely with the trumpets and it did not take long for an additional tenor trombone to replace the alto.
Regardless of its history, The Trombone is an integral part of our musical repertoire. So slide into your chair and sit back for a relaxing experience.
